How Baltimore’s ‘Spaghett’ Cocktail Became a Popular Summer Favorite
The drink known as the Spaghett—sometimes spelled Spagett—has carved out a unique place in modern beverage culture, tracing its origins directly to Baltimore.
The Origins of the Spaghett
The cocktail was invented in 2016 by Reed Cahill in Baltimore. Created as a lighthearted, joking riff on a standard Aperol spritz, Cahill modified the traditional recipe by adding the Italian aperitif directly into a bottle of beer.
A Simple Recipe with Wide Appeal
The combination pairs Aperol with Miller High Life, popularly marketed as the “Champagne of Beers.” By adding a splash of the bitter aperitif straight into the beer bottle, the drink creates an accessible twist on classic European cocktail traditions.
Since its invention, the Baltimore-born mix has expanded far beyond its original local setting, gaining popularity nationwide as a seasonal summer staple.
