DHS Announces Thousands of Arrests in New York Immigration Operation
Federal authorities have announced thousands of arrests following a sweeping immigration enforcement operation in New York, marking one of the latest large-scale actions taken by federal immigration officials.
Following the announcement, the Secretary of Homeland Security criticized New York leadership regarding local immigration policies and cooperation. The operation included targeted enforcement actions, including a raid at a New York factory where body camera footage provided a rare glimpse into federal enforcement procedures on the ground.
2>Part of Nationwide Immigration Enforcement Efforts
The New York surge comes amid a series of federal immigration enforcement drives executed in various states and major metropolitan areas across the nation.
Similar large-scale initiatives have recently unfolded in other jurisdictions:
- Minnesota: Federal officials previously announced more than 10,000 arrests of illegal migrants during a major state operation. Official Kristi Noem publicly criticized Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey over local sanctuary policies during the surge. Trump border czar Tom Homan later announced the conclusion of the Minnesota operation in February 2026.
- California: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted “Operation Highway Sentinel,” targeting commercial transportation and arresting over 100 truck drivers.
- Washington, D.C.: Data from a federal enforcement crackdown in the nation’s capital indicated that 40 percent of all arrests made during the initiative were immigration-related.
Guidance provided to federal agents involved in these multi-state immigration operations instructed officers to be camera-ready during public-facing enforcement actions as thousands of detentions were carried out nationwide.
