Ellen Burstyn Honored With Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at Venice Film Festival
Acclaimed screen and stage icon Ellen Burstyn was awarded the prestigious Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 83rd Venice Film Festival.
The 93-year-old actress delivered an emotional acceptance speech during the Biennale Cinema ceremony, reflecting on her decades in motion pictures and the weight of receiving one of international cinema’s highest honors.
“It’s one thing to win an Oscar, Tony or Emmy — all of which I’ve won. But this is a lot,” Burstyn said upon receiving the award.
Reflecting on a Storied Career
During her time in Venice, Burstyn looked back at her expansive career, including earlier roles such as playing Marilyn Monroe. Burstyn remarked that she had “never pictured” still actively making movies at the age of 93.
Despite recovering from a recent fall, Burstyn attended the festival ceremony to deliver her acceptance speech in person. Beyond discussing her work in performance arts, Burstyn also shared thoughts on the future of the United States during the event.
