Federal Agents Seize Over 22,000 Ancient Artifacts in Florida Smuggling Probe
Federal law enforcement authorities have seized more than 22,000 ancient artifacts in Florida following an investigation into illegal antiquities smuggling, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The operation was led by ICE Homeland Security Investigations, with HSI Tampa executing the seizure as part of efforts to dismantle illicit networks that traffic stolen cultural property into the United States.
Targeting Illicit Antiquities Trade
The confiscation marks one of the larger antiquities enforcement actions reported in the region. Federal agents targeted illegal smuggling operations that transport ancient items across international borders into Florida.
HSI serves as a primary federal investigative agency tasked with probing crimes involving cultural property, stolen art, and ancient artifacts. Operations of this nature aim to interrupt illegal trade routes, secure cultural items, and support efforts to identify the origins of smuggled goods.
