Trump Nominates Hung Cao as Permanent Navy Secretary
President Donald Trump has nominated acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao to serve in the permanent role leading the Department of the Navy.
Cao had been serving as acting Navy secretary for four months prior to the formal decision to put his name forward for the permanent cabinet-level position. In announcing the move, Trump referred to Cao as a “true warrior” for his service leading the branch in an interim capacity.
Key Navy Leadership Positions Named
The nomination of Cao to serve permanently as Secretary of the Navy was submitted alongside formal nominations for other top leadership roles within the military department, including positions for Toti and Breckenridge.
The administrative step moves Cao from an acting designation into formal senate confirmation proceedings as the administration seeks to solidify permanent civilian leadership across the Pentagon and military service branches.
